He was known for his shrewd business sense and his tendency to exploit those around him, particularly the young Anakin Skywalker, whom he enslaved and forced to race his podracer. Despite his unscrupulous dealings, Watto was ultimately outsmarted by the Jedi Qui-Gon Jinn and his apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi, who freed Anakin and won the podrace. Watto's fate after this event is unknown, but it is assumed that he continued to operate his junk shop and engage in shady dealings.
