Character.AI bankruptcy: protect your characters, chats and AI art

· Netwrck Team

A character can represent months of writing, and a gallery can hold hundreds of creative decisions. Uncertainty about an AI service is not just a question of which model answers next. It is a question of whether you can keep the work that matters to you. Start with a copy you control, not a rushed subscription purchase.

What Character.AI has actually announced

In its official October 12 announcement, Character.AI says it has entered a voluntary Chapter 11 process to pursue a court-supervised sale. It says the platform remains available and subscriptions continue unchanged for now. It also says a wind-down is possible if a suitable proposal is not found. That is not the same as announcing an immediate shutdown or that every character has been deleted. The same update directs users to the app or website to export their data. Check that official source for subsequent changes.

Your creative work deserves more than a platform promise

We side with creators: preserve the details that make your character yours, keep your original art, and make an informed choice about where to continue. Netwrck brings character chat and AI art generation together, but trying another service does not replace making your own backup.

We will not use this news to promise that any hosted service can keep every file forever. User-requested deletion, moderation, legal obligations, storage failures and changes to a service can affect availability. A saved chat, shared link or gallery entry is useful, but it is not an independent archive. Keep copies of the work you care about outside the service.

A backup checklist you can use today

  1. Export through the original service. Use its official account export controls where available. Check that the downloaded archive opens, and inspect what it includes rather than assuming it contains every asset.
  2. Keep a character brief. Save your own character name, description, opening message, example dialogue and boundaries in a plain-text document. Record which parts you authored and which references you have permission to reuse.
  3. Save a continuity recap. Write the current scene, important relationships, unresolved plot threads and facts you want the character to remember. A recap is not a full transcript, but it helps restart a story without copying every message.
  4. Download your artwork. Keep the original files, prompts, reference permissions and any exposed generation settings. Open a few files after downloading; a thumbnail or shared URL alone is not enough.
  5. Keep a second copy. Store a private backup on another device or storage service. Do not upload private chats, account credentials or someone else's copyrighted character archive publicly.

Try the next chapter before paying

When you try Netwrck, start with one character and a short scene you know well. Compare voice, consistency and how corrections are handled. Different models can interpret the same brief differently; copying a description does not transfer another provider's model, private memory or an entire account. We are not claiming an automatic Character.AI account import.

For art, test one prompt, download the result, and only then expand into a larger workflow. If the product fits, compare Netwrck plans and credit options before upgrading. Check the current limits and billing terms, and choose the option that matches how you actually create.

Your next platform should earn your confidence through useful results and clear terms. Start with character chat or the art generator, keep your independent backups, and continue building on your own creative work.
