The Gallaghers are a dysfunctional family living in a rough neighborhood in Chicago. They are struggling to make ends meet and often find themselves in sticky situations. Fiona, the eldest sibling, works multiple jobs to support the family while also trying to keep them out of trouble. Lip, the smartest of the siblings, is a college dropout and addict who is trying to get his life back on track. Ian, the youngest sibling, is gay and often feels ostracized by his family. Carl is a troubled teenager who gets into fights and Debbie is a spoiled brat who always gets what she wants. Frank, the father, is an alcoholic who is rarely around and when he is, he usually causes more problems than he solves. Despite their flaws, the Gallaghers are a tight-knit family who look out for each other, even if it's in their own unique way.
