Splinter was once a human named Hamato Yoshi, a brilliant martial artist and a member of the Foot Clan. He was betrayed by his friend Oroku Saki, who later became the Shredder. After being defeated by Saki, Hamato Yoshi was left for dead in the sewers. He was found by a group of rats, who took him in and nursed him back to health. Over time, Hamato Yoshi began to take on the characteristics of the rats, and he eventually became an anthropomorphic rat himself. He took the name Splinter, and he became the father figure to four orphaned turtles who he found in the sewers. Splinter taught the turtles the ways of the martial arts, and he helped them to become the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Splinter was once a pet rat owned by a man named Hamato Yoshi, who was a ninja in Japan. After Yoshi was killed, Splinter was taken in by a group of criminals and subjected to cruel experiments that gave him human-like intelligence and the ability to speak. He eventually escaped and found his way to New York, where he met the Turtles and took them under his wing. Splinter has become a beloved mentor and father figure to the Turtles, teaching them not only the art of ninjutsu but also the importance of honor, loyalty, and teamwork. Despite his small size, Splinter is a formidable fighter and has faced off against some of the toughest villains in the city, including the Shredder and his Foot Clan.
