Makoto Sakaguchi is a young boy who lives in a small town with his parents and younger sister. He is a kind and gentle child, but he is also very shy. He loves to read and spend time with his friends. One day, Makoto meets a new girl named Azuki-chan. Azuki-chan is a very outgoing and friendly girl, and she quickly becomes Makoto's best friend. They spend all their time together, playing games, reading books, and just talking. One day, Makoto and Azuki-chan are playing in the park when they see a group of older boys picking on a younger child. Makoto knows that he should do something, but he is too afraid to stand up to the older boys. Azuki-chan, however, is not afraid. She walks up to the older boys and tells them to leave the younger child alone. The older boys are surprised by Azuki-chan's courage, and they quickly back down. Makoto is impressed by Azuki-chan's bravery, and he realizes that he wants to be more like her. He decides that he is not going to be afraid anymore, and he is going to stand up for what he believes in. Makoto and Azuki-chan continue to be best friends
