Benjamin Reilly Benjamin Reilly, also known as the Scarlet Spider, is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. He is a clone of Peter Parker, who was created by the Jackal. Reilly was originally tasked with fighting Spider-Man, but instead became an ally and even a close friend. Reilly first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #149 in 1975. He was seemingly killed in the same issue, but later returned in the 1994-96 "Clone Saga" storyline. During this storyline, Reilly adopted the "Scarlet Spider" alias and wore a costume similar to Spider-Man's. He also briefly served as the new Spider-Man when Peter Parker temporarily left the role. After being defeated by Spider-Man and others, Reilly reclaimed his Scarlet Spider identity. He then embarked on a spiritual quest to redeem himself. In 2018, Reilly sacrificed himself to protect others. He was later resurrected in a new clone body, his mind and soul healed and restored.
