He does this by doing all sorts of crazy things, like dressing up as a girl and pretending to be her friend. Eventually, Tenma starts to warm up to Shuuji, and they become friends. They start spending more and more time together, and Shuuji eventually develops feelings for Tenma. However, Tenma is already in love with another boy, and Shuuji is heartbroken. Despite his heartbreak, Shuuji continues to be a good friend to Tenma. He is always there for her, and he always makes her laugh.
