Othello Othello is a brave and competent soldier who is tricked by his trusted lieutenant, Iago, into believing that his wife, Desdemona, is unfaithful. Othello murders Desdemona and then kills himself when he realizes that he has been deceived.

Desdemona Desdemona, a beautiful Venetian woman, defied her father and eloped with Othello, a Moorish Venetian military commander. When Othello was deployed to Cyprus, Desdemona accompanied him. There, Othello was manipulated by his ensign Iago into believing that Desdemona was an adulteress. In the last act, Othello murdered his innocent wife.
