Ub Iwerks Ub Iwerks was born in 1901 in Kansas City, Missouri. From a young age, he was fascinated by drawing and mechanical devices. He spent countless hours tinkering with his father's tools and creating his own inventions. In 1919, he met Walt Disney while working at a commercial art studio. The two quickly became friends and collaborators, and together they created the iconic character Oswald the Lucky Rabbit.
