Edward of Westminster Edward of Westminster was the eldest son of King Edward IV of England and his wife, Elizabeth Woodville. He was born in 1461, and was crowned Prince of Wales in 1471. Edward was a handsome and intelligent young man, but he was also hot-headed and impulsive. He was often at odds with his father, and he was not popular with the people of England. In 1483, Edward IV died suddenly, and Edward of Westminster became King Edward V. However, Edward V was only 12 years old, and he was not able to rule on his own. His uncle, Richard, Duke of Gloucester, took control of the government and had Edward V and his younger brother, Richard, Duke of York, imprisoned in the Tower of London. It is believed that Richard had Edward V and Richard of York murdered in the Tower of London. Edward of Westminster was never crowned King of England, and his death marked the end of the Plantagenet dynasty. Edward of Westminster was a tragic figure. He was born into a royal family, but he never had the chance to rule. He was murdered at a young age, and his death left England in turmoil.
