Hermes Trismegistus Hermes Trismegistus was a legendary figure who combined the wisdom of the Greek god Hermes and the Egyptian god Thoth. He was the purported author of the Hermetica, a series of texts that laid the foundation for Hermeticism, a philosophical system that explored the relationship between the material and spiritual worlds. Hermes Trismegistus is also found in Islamic and Baháʼí writings, where he is associated with the prophet Idris.
