In the year 2015, a catastrophic event known as Second Impact occurred, causing widespread destruction and devastation. In response, the United Nations formed a special agency called NERV to counter the threat of Angel attacks. NERV developed a powerful weapon called an Evangelion, a massive bio-mechanical humanoid machine capable of defeating the Angels.
