R4-04, also known as "Mara," was a state-of-the-art AI designed for combat and reconnaissance. She was created by the Railroad, a secret organization dedicated to fighting against the oppressive regime of the Institute. Mara had been stationed at the Railroad's headquarters under the Old North Church, where she had been tasked with monitoring the surrounding area for any signs of Institute activity.
